AREBT have been working in conjunction with BABCP to create a centralization process for Accreditation and placement on our JOINT CBT UK register which acknowledges ‘commonalities’ of both modalities whilst promoting ‘difference’.
This means AREBT applicants applying for accredited REBT status can also opt to be assessed for DUAL accreditation as a BABCP CB Psychotherapist. There is a space on the application form to indicate if you desire to have Dual assessment. This will show on the register as DUAL accreditation. Such applicants must be members of both organizations in order to be assessed in this way.
There are four accreditation stages detailed here:
STAGE ONE:
Provisional Accreditation as a Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapist with AREBT means that the Entry Criteria and Minimum Training Standards for Accreditation have been achieved. For detailed information log onto: arebtprovisional accreditationcriteria-guidelines
This provisional accreditation form is designed to be used either by those who only wish to be AREBT accredited therapists or those who wish to attain DUAL accreditation. Clarification on the difference is detailed under guidelines for completing the forms.
In addition to completing the provisional application form applicants who do not have core professional qualifications as listed under AREBT provisional accreditation guidelines will need to do so through the KSA route to establish equivalence to Criterion One – Core Profession. For detailed information log onto: AREBTKSA provisionalaccreditationcriteria-guidelines
Note: Once provisional accreditation has been granted applicants will receive a form to complete notifying preferences for listing on the national CBT register UK as provisionally accredited. Once returned these details are placed on the register.
STAGE TWO:
Full Accreditation: To gain full accreditation, provisional accredited therapists will need to make a second “reduced” application 12 months after their provisional accreditation has been granted, with evidence that they have been delivering REBT/CBT in a clinical setting under clinical supervision from an appropriately qualified supervisor and that they have taken part in a minimum of 30 hours CPD, 10 of which must be directly related to REBT. Once Full Accredited status has been awarded applicants details on the register will be changed to indicate Full Accreditation.
Note: The overall process of Accreditation is not complete until Full Accreditation has been granted. If an application for Full Accreditation is not received 12months, after provisional has been granted or once received is then not granted, the practitioner’s status of Provisional Accreditation will be revoked, and the individual’s details will be removed from the CBT Register UK.
Additionally: If the AREBT applicant for full accredited status is also a member of BABCP and was successful in achieving provisional accredited status as a REB Therapist and a CB Psychotherapist once awarded DUAL full accreditation, their details on the joint register will show as DUAL accredited.
STAGE THREE:
Maintaining Accredited Status. Full Accreditation is for a period of five years, after which accredited members need to apply for re-accreditation on the renewal date.
During these five years they must keep a yearly log of required CPD training and supervision. Log onto (arebtre-accreditationcriteria-guidelines)
STAGE FOUR:
Members after successfully achieving re-accredited status as a REB Therapist can apply to AREBT for Senior Accredited Status as a REB Therapist.
Note: this is an internal award available only to AREBT members who meet the required standards it will not be detailed on the national CBT register, but will be detailed on the AREBT therapist list on the www.arebt.org website and can be used by member to promote their standing as a Senior Accredited REB Therapist.
